One of the centrepieces of the racing season is upon us as all eyes turn to Paris for the Arc Meeting. Two days of Group racing take place on the hallowed turf at Longchamp with horses travelling from the UK, Ireland, Germany and even further afield from Australia and Japan.
The Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe – or more commonly known as the Arc – takes place every year at the Longchamp racecourse in Paris. Hosting races since 1857, when Napoleon Bonaparte was in attendance, this is the most prestigious course in France, with over half of all French Group One races hosted in front of its’ 50,000-seater grandstand.
With plenty of travelling fans from the UK and Ireland, this is a bucket list trip for many racing fans who make the pilgrimage to the 16th arrondissement in the west of the French capital.
The Arc meeting is held on the first weekend in October each year. The main race takes place on the Sunday, but there are plenty of other prestigious races across the two days. These include the Prix du Cadran, Prix de l‘Abbaye de Longchamp. Prix de la Foret, and Prix de l’Opera, amongst many more.
Last year’s Arc winner was Bluestocking, with the four-year-old following up her success in the Prix Vermeille for Rossa Ryan and Ralph Beckett. Jean-Claude Rouget’s home favourite Ace Impact won the 2023 renewal when sent off at 5/2, with Sir Mark Prescott’s Alpinista landing the spoils in 2022. Heavy ground specialist Torquator Tasso was only the second German winner since 1975 when he triumphed at 80/1 back in 2022. The only Irish-trained winner since 2010 was Found for Ryan Moore and Aidan O’Brien back in 2016.
Two horses currently head the market in our Arc betting odds. For the hosts, Cristophe Ferland’s Aventure will be looking to repeat Bluestocking’s Prix Vermeille and Arc double at 4/1. The four-year-old picked up the Group 2 Prix Corrida earlier this season, having finished second in last year’s Arc.
As mentioned before, Aidan O’Brien hasn’t had a winner for quite some time in this race, but he saddles the supplemented joint-favourite Minnie Hauk. It will be the first trip across the Channel for a horse that has won the Cheshire Oaks, Irish Oaks, Epsom Oaks, and Yorkshire Oaks this year.
Winner of last month’s renewal of the Prix Foy, Byzantine Dream is 17/2 to become the first Japanese winner of this race, whilst the Land of the Rising Sun will also be cheering on Croix Du Nord (8/1), and Aloha Alii (14/1). Runner-up in the Prix Foy, Sosie is rated an 8/1 shot for Andre Fabre and connections, with the French trainer looking for a record-extending ninth win in the race.
As it stands, there are 18 runners in the betting for the Prix de l’Arc De Triomphe. However, a couple of entries will likely be scratched before the race due to soft ground and inclement weather forecast for the French capital over the coming days.
We have our antepost odds live for the big race and we will have plenty of horse racing spread betting markets across the two days. If you want to brush up on your trading, please check out our horse racing spread betting guide.
Remember that with spread betting, get the bet wrong and losses can exceed your stake/deposit so it's important you understand how each market works before setting an appropriate stake size for your bet.
